Usually, my illustrations come from songs and this one wasn’t the exception.

For over two months, this song kept playing in my head, so I decided to put it on digital paper.

That’s how Cowboy Take Me Away became an illustration, especially inspired by these lines:

I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
On a pillow of bluebonnets
In a blanket made of stars

cowboy

take me away

The song is by The Chicks, from their 1999 album Fly.
Interestingly, the title was inspired by a famous slogan from Calgon’s bath and beauty commercials: ā€œCalgon, take me away!ā€

The brand’s name comes from the phrase ā€œcalcium gone,ā€ and the iconic 1978 commercial that showed a woman escaping the stress of everyday life by slipping into a luxurious bath.

So, in a way, this illustration isn’t just about a song.
It’s also a small piece of pop history.
